Geeta R. Lall

May 1, 1932 — October 16, 2017

Dr. Geeta Rani Lall, 85, of Berrien Springs died peacefully at home Monday, October 16, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. She is survived by three daughters, Meena and Laura Lall, Rita Runyon; and three beloved grandsons, Adam Lall, Luke and Anthony Ross. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Bernard Lall; and daughter, Sheila Lall.

Geeta was born May 1, 1932 in India to Promotho Nath Sinha and Pryabala Das. Her lengthy education career began at Spicer College in India and she earned degrees at Walla Walla College in Washington and University of Oregon. Geeta and Bernard immigrated to England, Canada and the United States, pursuing education and having four daughters, one in each country of their journey.

After teaching across the globe, Geeta retired from the Benton Harbor School System after 16 years of dedication to her students. She was a prolific author and a passionate, strong advocate for women’s rights and equality. Her commitment to philanthropy, education, and orphan children included the building of two churches, a school, and her final act of generosity was building the Priyabala Hostel and School for Children in India, named after her dear mother.

Funeral services will be at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, October 21 at the Michiana Fil-Am SDA Church, Berrien Springs, with visitation 4-5:30 p.m.  Donations may go for Priyabala Hostel Orphanage and Hospice at Home. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Elisa Hanivana Dyas of Berrien Springs and Lucy Whitfield of Benton Harbor for their loving and tender care of "Miss Geeta".
