Betty Jayne Christner

Betty Jayne Christner, 89, of Berrien Center, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2016, at Lakeland Medical Center, St. Joseph.

Betty was born December 28, 1926, at her home in Berrien Center.  She was raised on the family farm where she enjoyed farm life and caring for the new chicks and ducklings.  She was a graduate of Berrien Springs High School.  On June 22, 1946, she married Ora Christner Jr.  Together they had two children and raised them next to the family farm.

Betty enjoyed working at Southwestern Medical Clinic, and when she retired, she was a volunteer at Berrien General Hospital.  She enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, spending time with her family, and sitting outdoors in the sunshine.  Betty always showed others kindness, and as a friend, parent, and grandparent will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her son, Gary Christner of Berrien Springs; daughter, Connie Roberts of Berrien Center; grandchildren, Robert (Judy) Christner, Christopher (Joy) Sill, Jeffrey (Jessica) Roberts; six great-grandchildren; and her brother, Leslie Hetler of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Ora; daughter-in-law, Carol Christner; son-in-law, Steven Roberts; and brother, LeRoy Hetler.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, with visitation starting at 10 a.m., at Allred Funeral Home, Berrien Springs.  Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Berrien Center.  Online messages may be left at www.allredfuneralhome.com.
