Henrietta 'Henri' Bruce

March 6, 1939 — July 18, 2016

Henrietta “Henri” Carol Bruce, 77, of Buchanan, Michigan, passed away in her sleep on Monday, July 18, 2016 in Little Rock, Arkansas while doing what she loved most in life: visiting with her family and friends in the company of her husband of 57 years, Lowell “Spike” Bruce, while at the home of her twin brother, Henry Heritz.

She was born March 6, 1939 to Henry and Natalie (Krieger) Heritz of Benton Harbor, Michigan. Besides her twin brother, she had three other siblings: Walter (who proceeded her in death), Ellen (Briney), and Ruth (Stubalt).

She was a graduate of Benton Harbor High School and worked for various firms as a bookkeeper and administrator, including Cuthbert Tractors in Eau Claire and Chemical Bank in St. Joseph. She was also a very active volunteer at the Berrien County Youth Fair and Lakeland Hospital in Niles.

She married Spike on January 31, 1959 and she had three children: Barbara, Robert “Bob”, and Brian. She was also blessed with seven grandchildren: Emilie, Kelly and Collin Bruce (children of Bob and Beth Bruce); little Del and Cody (sons of Barbara and Del Jr. Rockwell); and Anna and Tyler Buck, (children of Brian and Mary Bruce).

Henri and Spike made their home in Berrien Center, Michigan for many years before retiring to split their time between Sebring, Florida and Buchanan, Michigan.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Berrien Springs.  She was an accomplished painter and enjoyed square dancing, a round of golf with friends, and fishing with her husband and children.  Henri was a loving wife and mother and is now resting with God in eternal peace.

There will be a visitation with Henri’s family on Friday, July 22 from 1:00 to 2:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Berrien Springs.  Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to either the Berrien County Youth Fair or Trinity Lutheran Church and School.  Allred Funeral Home, Berrien Springs, is assisting with local arrangements.  Online sympathies and memories for the family may be left at www.allredfuneralhome.com.
