Janet Lee Mclauchlin Lacombe

Janet Lee McLauchlin Lacombe was called home to heaven early Monday morning. She had just returned to her home in Kouts, Ind., next door to her daughter Pamela and son-in-law Rev. Alan Stover. She had been looking forward to this return to her family. After a joyful return with family gathered around, she prepared to rest again in her lovely new bedroom. In the early morning hours of Sept. 30, 2019, she was called to her heavenly home with her savior Jesus Christ. Reuniting with our loved ones, as Janet is now with her parents Marcus and Viletta, is one of the great promises extended to all believers.

Janet was born in Dowagiac at Lee Memorial Hospital on November 7, 1937. She was the surviving twin to sister Jean, and only the size of a robin weighing in at 2 pounds and 10 oz. Community friends, church members, and family members dedicated themselves to feeding her every 20 minutes with an eye dropper. Coming in even during the night allowed Mac and Vi some rest.

She lived in Berrien Springs during her childhood and graduated from BSHS in the class of 1956. Her classmates recently sent her a photograph and get well wishes while she was convalescing. Janet was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Berrien Springs until she suffered a stroke two years ago. She loved singing in the choir under Larry Moody's direction and served on various boards. If you are a Methodist she could be found in the kitchen washing dishes with her mom and sister. She retired from the RESA for Berrien County after more than 30 years.

Janet is survived by her husband of nearly 10 years, Gerald LaCombe; her daughter, Pamela and Rev. Alan Stover of Kouts, where they serve the New Hope Missionary Church; her son, Matthew and Sahar McLauchlin of Raleigh, N.C.; granddaughters, Andrea Stover-Reincke (Chad) and Dawn Stover-Tarter (Ben); along with her great-grandchildren: Levi, Everly, and Ava Rose. Janet will miss the giggles of two more granddaughters, MacKenzie and Sofia, whom she visited at their home last year.

Siblings, Howard and Sylvia McLauchlin Wallace-Boal and their partners in life, Jackie and John Boal, express their thanks to the staffs of Porter Regional Hospital, Caretel, and First Light Homecare for their emergency and extended care during the last six weeks.
