Lola Mae Rockwell

January 27, 1916 — July 13, 2017

Lola Mae (West) Rockwell passed away peacefully at the age of 101 and a half in her apartment in Berrien Springs on July 13, 2017.  She will be remembered for her positive attitude and winning smile.

She grew up in Ingram County, Michigan, having kerosene lamps to read by, sleighs to ride in, and attended a one-room schoolhouse for eight years.  She finished ninth grade in Dansville High School in Dansville, Michigan.  She married William “Bill” Rockwell in 1934.  They lived in Jackson, Michigan, and surrounding towns near there, and were married for 47 years.

Lola enjoyed being a housewife and mother.  She loved to sew and made many quilts for her children and her grandchildren.  She also loved working in her flower gardens, camping, family gatherings, and spending winters in Florida.

She was a member of the Jackson Seventh-day Adventist Church in Jackson, Michigan, for 70 years and transferred her membership to the Village Seventh-day Adventist Church when she moved here and into an apartment at Timberridge Manor.  She enjoyed her dog, Buddy, for 16 ½ years, and then her kitty, Cindy.

Lola is survived by six children: Carl Rockwell, Dick Rockwell, Jerry (Marilyn) Rockwell, Mark (Kim) Rockwell, Loveva Slayton, and Julie Wilkes; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William “Bill” Rockwell; and two grandsons, Dean and Tony Rockwell.

A memorial service will be held on August 6, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the Jackson Seventh-day Adventist Church in Jackson, Michigan.  There may be a local service at a later date.

Her desire was to be faithful and live in heaven one day with all of her family and friends when Jesus comes to take us home.
