Betty June Roy, M.Ed., passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025 in Stevensville, Michigan, at the age of 93 after a long illness.
Born in Henderson, Texas on February 15, 1932, Betty lived a life filled with passion and a sense of adventure. An accomplished musician and a longtime violinist with the Fort Worth Symphony, she had a remarkable ear for harmony and a happy habit of whistling. She brought that same creative spirit to her work as a lifelong educator and published author, where she championed multisensory learning for students with dyslexia. Betty held a fierce belief that every child deserved the opportunity to reach their full potential, and she dedicated her life to helping them do just that.
Her passion extended beyond the classroom to include her time as Director of the Scottish Rite Institute in Lubbock, Texas. Her "Teach the Teacher" series, which she presented in lecture halls across the country, helped fellow educators align their teaching style with how those with dyslexia learn best.
She loved to dance, travel, and experience new things, and her bright smile and infectious laugh were a source of joy to all who knew her. She will be remembered most of all for the joy and love she brought to her family.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Phalguni S. Roy. She is survived by her three sons, Patrick D. Hooker, Stephen R. Hooker, and Scott D. Hooker, as well as five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Allred Funeral Home.
