Eau Claire, Michigan

Brett E. Flanders, 56, of Eau Claire, Michigan, passed away on October 5, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer, after a life marked by devotion to family, hard work, faith, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of the outdoors.

Brett was born on February 27, 1970, in South Bend, Indiana, to James and Sharon K. (Justice) Flanders. He grew up with a strong sense of family and community, values that remained central throughout his life. In 1988, he graduated from Ross Beaty High School in Cassopolis, Michigan, and carried the lessons of perseverance and responsibility from his youth into every chapter that followed.

Brett made his living through honest labor and dedication to his trade. He worked for Ironworkers Local #292 and was most recently employed by T&A Rigging. He took pride in his work and was respected by those who knew him for his reliability, leadership, and steady presence. His career reflected the same qualities that defined his life, including strength, courage, and a willingness to do what needed to be done for those depending on him.

On July 15, 2007, Brett married Alyce E. Johnston in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Together they built a life rooted in love, companionship, and shared commitment. He is survived by his wife, Alyce Flanders of Eau Claire, Michigan; his parents, James (Martha) Flanders of Watervliet, Michigan and Sharon Flanders of Niles, Michigan; his three children, Chris (Kristi) Grant of St. Joseph, Brooke (Chris) Everett of Hartford, and Kayla (Joshua) Grounds of Marcellus; five grandchildren and two additions coming soon; his two sisters, Tammy (Jerry) Howard of Dowagiac and Shawn (Brian) Reynolds of Niles; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as a host of friends. His family was the center of his world, and he especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren, whose presence brought him great joy.

Brett lived with a spirit that reflected kindness, loyalty, and quiet strength. Those who knew him will remember his humor, his courage, and the loving way he showed up for the people he cared about. He had a gift for making others smile, and his funny nature helped brighten many days.

He was an outdoorsman who found happiness in hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He also enjoyed watching sports and was an avid University of Michigan fan. Whether he was spending time outside, following a game, or simply being with family, Brett appreciated the moments that brought people together. He valued those times deeply and made lasting memories through them.

Memorial contributions may be made in Brett’s memory to Hanson Hospice in care of Corewell Hospice 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, Michigan 49085.
