Étienne Pierre Panigot died unexpectedly on August 6, 2026, at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, from a rare, undiagnosed heart defect. He was only seven weeks old.
Sweet little Étienne was born on June 13, 2026, in Berrien Springs, Michigan, to his parents, Tommy and Vanja Panigot, and sisters, Solène and Sasha. We chose his name as a family. He was a rainbow baby, born as a beautiful blessing after a previous miscarriage.
Our family was so excited to welcome him and get to know him. His sisters, Solène and Sasha, couldn’t wait to hold him each morning and throughout the day. They loved being near him and helping with everything he needed. Étienne loved his sisters, too, and would turn his head toward them whenever he heard them nearby. He loved to hear them sing and make up songs.
He was born with a full head of hair and loved having his hands by his face or hair, even accidentally pulling his own hair a few times. He was beginning to recognize faces and to coo and smile at his parents and sisters. He brought so much joy to our family, and we loved him so much.
Although our hearts are aching, we do have immense hope that we will see Étienne again. Solène made up a song for Étienne about that “special day” when Jesus will raise him to life again, without pain and suffering, and our family will be reunited and complete once more. Until then, we will hold him in our hearts and look forward to that “special day.”
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came so that they would have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10).
Étienne was also deeply loved by his Ama, Baka and Deda, and Nonna and Papi, as well as his Tatas and Tontons, Tetas and Tetaks, cousins and many other family and friends.
A private graveside service is being held on August 21. After the service, our community is invited to visit with us in the Pioneer Memorial Church Commons from 2:30–4:30 p.m.
