Floyd "Alex" Eskridge, known warmly as Alex to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, at the age of 91 in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Born on February 15, 1934, in Charleston, South Carolina, to Mr. Charles Eskridge and Mrs. Atta (Slusher) Eskridge, Alex was a man blessed with a loving heart, a joyful spirit, and a life filled with dedication to his family and community.
Though he was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Marie, Dwight, and Charles Eskridge, his legacy continues through his cherished wife, Neva Diane (Roach) Eskridge, and their wonderful family. United in matrimony on September 9, 1985, Alex and Neva forged a bond that was characterized by unwavering commitment and mutual love. Together, they raised a vibrant family that included nine children: Twyla Mcewan, Eldon (Racheal) Eskridge, Denise Scarlett, George (Roberta) Pearce, Marla (Chuck) Priest, Laura (Brian) Hickman, Linda (Andrew) Zachary, Danille (Matthew) Woods, and Angela (Wayne Black) Eskridge. The family joy was multiplied with the addition of 22 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, all of whom Alex cherished deeply.
Alex's professional life was marked by his service as a talented cook for the U.S. Army, Andrews University, and Apple Valley, enchanting many with his culinary delights. In addition, his time behind the wheel as a bus driver for the Berrien Bus showcased his reliability and dedication to helping others in their daily travels. Beyond his work, Alex was actively involved in his community, touching the lives of many through his kindness and generous spirit.
His Christian faith was important to Alex and influenced the way he lived his life—with compassion, grace, and humility. His interests were as varied as they were unique, with a love for woodworking, stamp and coin collecting, and a passion for geology that found him often in search of interesting rocks. A connoisseur of classical music, he was frequently found enjoying the melodies from the Andrews music station. His personality—playful, sweet, quiet, and always ready to share a kind word or a laugh—endeared him to all who knew him.
Alex will be remembered as a loving husband, a supportive father, a doting grandfather, and a great grandfather, and a true friend. His life, a testament to loving-kindness and gentle humor, will be celebrated and forever etched in the memories of his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Though he has departed from this earthly realm, the melody of Alex Eskridge's life will continue to play in the hearts of those he left behind.
