Gary Lee Case was born on September 30, 1944, in Berwin, Illinois. On October 30, 2025, at the age of 81, he peacefully passed away surrounded by the warmth of his family in Niles, Michigan. Gary's life was marked by kindness, steadfastness, and intellect, which he demonstrated consistently in his personal and professional life.
He married his wife, Sandi Case, on August 22, 1965, in San Diego, California. Their union was a loving partnership that spanned over six decades. Gary's legacy lives on through his two sons, Gary L. II (Deanna) Case and Tim (Karen) Case, and his adored grandchildren, Megan (Curtis) Case-Johnson, Parker (Alexis) Case, Brady Case, Abigail Case, and Samantha Case, all of whom brought great joy and pride to his life. He is also survived by his brother Gordon Case II and sister Judy Case Brown.
His parents, Gordon A. and Kathryn J. (Rosethal) Case, preceded him in death.
Gary graduated from San Diego Union Academy in 1962. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from La Sierra University in 1966 and his Master of Divinity from the Seventh-day Adventist Seminary in 1968. Gary pastored congregations in the Seventh-day Adventist denomination both in Southeastern California and Indiana Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. His ministry was built on firm biblical principles. He later attended Loma Linda University School of Allied Health where he received a Masters of Public Health Education in 1982.
Gary considered his hobby any project he embarked on which included building, fixing, and repairing. These skills he applied to both home and churches. Gary once told Somone, “I don’t really do leisure time”, and he didn’t. He was a true “handyman.”
Gary could be a fierce competitor in a good game of scrabble, but his virtues were patience and kindness. Gary was a pillar of organization, attributes that not only made him a much-respected figure in his pastoral role but also endeared him to his family and friends. His intelligence and ability to navigate life's challenges with grace reflected his fortitude and dedication. He was dedicated to health and health education.
Gary's love manifested in his steadfast support for others, and his commitment to his calling from God, family, and community was unshakeable. A great, kind, and loving man, Gary Lee Case left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His passing leaves a deep void, but the impact of his warm spirit and generous heart will continue to be felt by everyone who knew him. He faced his last diagnoses with grace and acceptance. Throughout the course of the disease, his faith remained strong and steadfast.
