Obituary for Roseline Halder

Roseline Halder was born into the Roy family on April 14, 1952, in Bangladesh. Her father, Mr. Sashadhar K. Roy, was a village councilor. Her mother was Mrs. Rashmoni (Baroi) Roy. Roseline was given the nickname "Tithe Child" of the family because she was the tenth child amongst 12 children.

She received her education from Adventist Kellogg Mukherjee Memorial School in Bangladesh. After finishing her Division School Leaving Certificate (DSLC), she went to Pakistan SDA Union Mission College for higher education, and from there she joined Karachi Adventist Hospital to study nursing, where she finished two years of nursing courses. After the Liberation War between Pakistan and Bangladesh, Roseline returned to Bangladesh. There she enrolled in the Holy Family Red Cross Hospital at Dhaka, where she took the Government Nursing Board Exam and passed the nursing course with good results having distinction in medicine.

Not too long after, Rose went on to Nusvid Adventist Hospital in India to study midwifery, and when she returned from India, Roseline was set to marry Pr. R. N. Halder.

She worked in different capacities in the SDA Church of Bangladesh. She began her career as a health teacher in Bangladesh Adventist Seminary and College. She worked in ADRA as a social worker. She also worked as a coordinator and cashier in the Adventist Dental Clinic. She then went to Saudi Arabia as a nurse and worked for some time. In later time she worked as Shepherdess/Women/Family Health/Children Director in South Bangladesh Mission and West Bangladesh Mission for 10 years. During this period she was fortunate to be able to visit Canada, USA, England, and India.

She was a very wise, God-fearing, loving, and caring mother. Because of her good leadership, her son and daughter received good Christian education and are able to form a God-fearing character. Rowland, her son, finished MBA from Southern Adventist University, India. Her daughter, Rosetta, finished MA in Elementary Education from Andrews University, India. This was only possible because of her motherly sacrifices.

Roseline passed away before her time due to liver disease. In 1976, she had lost a lot of blood due to premature childbirth of her son, Rowland. She was given blood transfusions, and unfortunately she contracted Hepatitis C virus, which ultimately caused her liver failure. Luckily, by the grace of God, Roseline was able to migrate to the US along with Pr. Halder. If they would have remained in Bangladesh, she might have passed away much sooner, perhaps even 20 years earlier.

Roseline never lost her smile and faith in the Lord, in spite of always having severe pain in her abdomen and her body. The only thing that she was sad about was that she did not get to see her children and grandchildren one last time before she passed.
