Berrien Springs

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Sankata Kaoma, who left this world on February 7, 2026, in Berrien Springs, Michigan at the age of 47 years. Born on March 22, 1978, in Ndola, Zambia, Peter's journey through life has been a testament to his indomitable spirit and unwavering faith. He was the cherished son, devoted husband, adoring father, and dear brother whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew him.

Education was important to Peter. He attended primary school at Nsansa International School in Ndola, Zambia and Ndola Trust School. He also attended Secondary school at St. Andrews High School in Ndola, Zambia, Leopards Hill Secondary School in Lusaka, Zambia, and Berrien Springs High School in Berrien Springs, Michigan.

Peter grew up in the warmth of Ndola's community and found his lifelong calling in the field of hospitality. His career as a front desk manager was marked by his dedication and the extraordinary rapport he built with both colleagues and guests. His professionalism, coupled with his genuine kindness, created an atmosphere of welcome and comfort that extended beyond the workplace.

Throughout his life, Peter's Christian faith was the cornerstone of his existence. It guided him in his daily activities and shone through his compassionate treatment of others. He lived his beliefs with quiet conviction, embodying the love and grace that are the hallmarks of his faith.

His love for sports was unmistakable. Whether dribbling on the basketball court, sprinting on the soccer field, or cheering from the sidelines, Peter's enthusiasm was contagious. He had an equal passion for music and singing, often sharing his voice in joyous song. Traveling and exploring new places brought Peter great pleasure, but nothing compared to the joy he found in family life.

Peter's zest for life extended to the community, where he was a blessing to both friends and strangers alike. Known for his gentle and soft-spoken nature, he met the world with a perpetual smile and never raised his voice in anger. His friends recall his loyalty and caring nature as unfaltering, always there to lend a hand or offer a word of support.

At home, Peter was the epitome of a family man, weaving a tapestry of love and laughter that embraced his loved ones. He leaves behind his beloved mother, Grace (Banda) Kaoma, his wife, Charquara Moragne-Kaoma, his namesake son, Peter Sankata Kaoma Jr., and his step-children, Darrius Moragne, Arnez Higgens, and Dartrell Brown. His siblings, Annie K. Kaoma in the UK, Betty L. Kaoma, Martin (Pamela) Kaoma, cousins, nieces and nephews continue to honour his legacy. Peter now joins his father, Peter B. Kaoma, his uncles Owen Kaoma, Wellington Matende Kaoma, Robbie C Kaoma, and Duncan Kaoma; his paternal grandparents, Henry and Nellie Kaoma and his maternal grandparents Adam and Betty Banda; and his siblings, Shirley Kanguya and Mwansa Kaoma, who preceded him in death.

Those who have had the privilege of knowing Peter describe him as loving, kind, and faith-filled. His heart of gold, loving nature, and humorous spirit will forever be etched in the memories of his family and friends. The impact he made on the lives of countless individuals is immeasurable, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Peter Sankata Kaoma's journey on earth may have concluded, but the values he lived by and the love he shared will continue to resonate within the community and, most of all, within the bounds of his cherished family. As we bid farewell to a man whose life was a beacon of hope and kindness, let us celebrate the extraordinary life he led and the indelible mark he left upon this world.
