Shima Rani Arinda Murmu, a woman of unwavering positivity and compassion, left this world on July 11, 2025, at the age of 63. Born on October 13, 1961, in Gopalganj, Bangladesh, Shima's life was a testament to love, generosity, and selflessness. She departed from Berrien Springs, Michigan, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Shima was the beloved wife of Cornelius Murmu, with whom she shared a deep bond of understanding and support. She was a nurturing mother to her sons Claudius, Calvin (Jody), and Christopher Murmu, and a cherished grandmother to Jackson and Harrison Murmu. Her parents, the late Samarendranath Arinda and her mother who survives, Mrinalini Arinda, instilled in her the virtues of love and service, which she exemplified throughout her life. She was a loving sister to Julie (George) Haldar, Mithu Odaiyar, Swapna (Raymond) Dewri, Apurbo (Rita) Arinda, Linton (Naomi) Arinda, and Rintu (Borun) Arinda.
From 1985 to 2013, Shima devoted herself to the students of Andrews University, cooking hundreds of meals and providing for those in need of extra love and care. Her dedication extended to her role as a home health care nurse from 2009 to 2012, where she offered comfort and aid to those in their twilight years. Shima's extraordinary work ethic was matched only by her courage and immense compassion.
Shima lived by the principle that one should never speak ill of others, and her consistently positive outlook on life was both refreshing and uplifting. Her interests were a reflection of her inner spirit; she was a woman who found joy in the well-being of others and believed in the power of kindness.
The words that best describe Shima are loving, generous, and selfless. In her presence, one could not help but feel the warmth of her love and the depth of her generosity. Her selflessness was the cornerstone of her existence, always placing the needs of others before her own.
