Joan Clausen

Wanda Joan Clausen, born on August 17, 1934, in Hinsdale, Illinois, passed away on April 14, 2026, at her home in Berrien Springs, Michigan at the age of 91.

Joan was the daughter of Opal (Schlegel) and Homer Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lowell “Slim” Clausen, and her daughter, Cindy Clausen. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Marvin Coy; her brother, Thomas (Marlene) Wilson; and her grandchildren, Lindsey (Justin) Shepherd, Steven (Michelle) Coy, and Ryan (Christine) Coy. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren and many loved ones.

Joan moved to Berrien Springs, Michigan at the age of ten where she later met and married Lowell on August 2, 1953. They were married 63 years. Joan treasured her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She took great pride in watching her family grow through the generations.

Joan worked as a bookkeeper for various entities around the Hinsdale/Chicago area, where she was respected for her reliability, attention to detail, and steady work ethic.

In her free time, Joan enjoyed horseback riding, walking, going to museums, camping, canoeing, riding bikes, traveling, and spending time with the people she loved most. In her retirement, Joan took pleasure in going out to eat with her husband and friends at Nikki’s Cafe in Berrien Springs and other favorite places. She especially loved being with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. In her later years, Joan remained active getting out and about daily.

Joan will be deeply missed, and we cannot wait to see her in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Village Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School Scholarship Fund.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Allred Funeral Home in Berrien Springs, Michigan.  A funeral service will be held to honor Joan's life on Sunday April 19 at the Riess Chapel at the Village Seventh-day Adventist Church at 10:00 AM.  A visitation for family and friends will take place one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow the service at Rose Hill Cemetery.  A luncheon will take place at Love Creek Nature Center after the burial.
