Vickie Lynne (Cora) Martin, a cherished educator, principal, and family member, passed away on May 29, 2025, in Valparaiso, Indiana. Born on October 10, 1954, in Duluth, Minnesota, to Victor and Miriam (Harder) Cora, Vickie's life was a testament to her enduring spirit and passion for nurturing others.
Vickie graduated from Maplewood Academy, continuing her education at Union College and obtaining a master’s degree in education at Andrews University. She dedicated over four decades to teaching and leading with compassion and wisdom. Her retirement was a recent chapter in her life, celebrated by colleagues and students alike, who admired her commitment to fostering growth and understanding in her community.
Her love story began in Cloquet, Minnesota, where she married Steven Martin, the love of her life, on April 24, 1983. Though Steven preceded her in death, their partnership was filled with mutual support and joy. Vickie was also preceded in passing by her sweet granddaughter, Alona. Vickie's legacy lives on through her loving children: Sandy Winkie, Jerry (Michelle) Martin, Blake (Erica) Martin, Jon (Hannah) Martin, and Andrew (Abi) Martin. Her grandchildren—Nick, Isabelle, Chris, Sam, Abby, Junior, Dean, Dawson, Eloise, Macy, Lilah, Parker, McKenzie, and Mason —along with one grandchild on the way and her great-grandchildren—Riley, Roman, and Amalee—will carry forward her spirit of generosity and love. Vickie is also survived by her parents Victor and Miriam Cora, brothers Gary (Stacey) Cora and Doug Cora, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members who will miss her dearly.
Vickie's musical talents were a source of joy and inspiration. An accomplished pianist, she shared her love of music by teaching others to play. She sang in several musical groups over the years, and her voice a beautiful instrument in itself, uplifted many and her presence in musical gatherings will be profoundly missed.
Her interests reflected her zest for life. Vickie found pleasure in the simple joys of plain M&Ms paired with a cold Pepsi, and she recently discovered a passion for pour art, embracing the whirlwind of colors with the same enthusiasm she brought to every endeavor.
